How we test with our screw feeders
Many of our customers routinely ask us to carry out feeding tests of powder materials.
For example, just recently we have done a feeding test of iron powder using a screw feeder.
Feeding tests with screw feeders are carried out to assess the performance of powder material conveying. The general test items and procedures are as follows.
1.Checking material properties
Conveying tests with screw feeders are carried out to assess the conveying performance of various powder materials. Specific test items and procedures include
Material characterization: to check the material properties.
Grain size distribution: checks the grain size distribution and assesses whether the screw feeder can convey the material properly.
Moisture content: check the moisture content of the material and assess its potential to affect conveying.
Density: checks the bulk or true density of the material to help adjust the feed rate.
2:Device selection
Screw selection: select the appropriate screw shape and size for the material. For example, U-shaped, V-shaped or tapered.
Rotation speed: set the rotational speed of the screw and adjust the feed rate.
3:Conducting transport tests
Continuous operation test: the screw feeder is run continuously for a certain period of time to check whether stable feeding is possible.
Measure feed quantity: measure the amount of material fed in a given period of time and compare it with the set value.
Reproducibility check: multiple tests are carried out under the same conditions to check the reproducibility of the results.
4:Troubleshooting:
Check for blockages: check for blockages in the screw during conveying. If blockages occur, identify the cause and consider remedial measures.
Check for wear: check the internal parts of the screw and feeder for wear and, if necessary, use wear-resistant materials or review the design.
5:Optimisation of operating conditions
Assess vibration and noise: measure vibration and noise levels during conveying and take action where necessary.
Measure energy consumption: measure the energy required to operate the screw feeder and set efficient operating conditions.
6:Safety checks:
Check operation of safety devices: check operation of emergency stop devices and overload protection devices.
Assess the working environment: assess the working environment to ensure operator safety and make improvements where necessary.
Through these tests, the performance of the screw feeder is optimized and stable conveying is ensured.
Based on our know-how and extensive testing experience, we can recommend the most suitable screw feeder for your raw material. If you are located overseas, we will be happy to carry out tests on your behalf.
